A popular, less thorny and more flavoursome version of the Makrut lime (also known as Kaffir lime), this variety is juicy, not dry, but with all the benefits of the Makrut. The leaves are an important part of many Asian and Indian cuisines, while the fruit yield a rich oil from the rind which can be harvested with a fine grater. The oil is subtly perfumed and is used in the preparation of local herbal shampoos and nit treatments. An attractive small tree that thrives in warmer climates in the ground and in cooler areas it performs beautifully in a pot.
